Rainforest to Rio - Summer 2

This half-term we will be finding out about how life is different in another part of the world - Brazil. We are very excited to be finding out about the rainforest and the creatures that live in it. 

 

In English we will be writing  short reports on different topics, exploring alliteration in poetry and reading traditional tales from Brazil.

 

In Maths we will be solving money problems, learning about multiplication and division and also investigating capacity and volume.

 

In Science we will be learning about plants, how they grow and how the seasons affect them.

 

In Computing will be creating a movie using IPads.

 

In Geography we will be comparing our own local area with that of the rainforest in Brazil and Rio de Janeiro.

 

In PE we will be developing our jumping, running and throwing skills.

 

In Art we will be using fabric and a recycled object to make a percussion instrument.

 

In Music we will be using the instruments we have made in Art to play different rhythms.

 

In D&T we will be learning about the importance of safety and hygiene when making a fruit salad. We will also be making our own carnival headdress.

 

In RE we will be listening to and discussing stories from different religions.

 

Our Eco-theme for this half term is understanding the importance of bio-diversity and the preservation of habitats.

 

 

On-going learning:

Using our Super Turtle Learning Powers to become happy learners.

Using  all the phonemes and graphemes  we have learned  when we are  reading and spelling.

Spelling tricky words and sounding out words carefully when writing.

Reading in different contexts and for different purposes.

Reading aloud, sounding out words we are unsure of, talking about what we have read and checking it makes sense.

Discussing and sharing ideas, using whole sentences.

Using cursive script when we write.

Recognising when we need to solve mathematical problems.

Developing understanding of the 4 Bees and how they help us to

behave well with others.
