Our new learning journey this half term is 'Lets Get Cracking'

This is a learning journey which will see us taking a closer look at life cycles.

As part of this learning journey we will be incubating our own eggs and hatching our own chicks!  This is a fantastic experience for the children and always inspires and motivates our learning in all areas of the curriculum. We will be looking at books such as 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  We will also be taking part in World book day where we will be focussing on the wonderful author Julia Donaldson and reading books such as 'The Gruffalo'.

This half term the Rainbow children will eputting on a performance for the parents and the rest of the school based on their current learning!  More information to follow.

The children will be heard read once a week by classroom staff and once a week by a parent reading assistant.  They will also take part in guided reading as a class on a Friday as part of our phonics lessons.  During these sessions we encourage children to sound out and blend the words. We also work on comprehension and ask the children questions about characters and what is happening in the story.

In Maths we will continue to work on 2d and 3d shapes, counting beyond 10, simple addition and subtraction and measuring using non standard units.  You could help with maths at home by:

  • playing games such as snakes and ladders or dominoes
  • going on a shape hunt around your house
  • plating 'guess the shape' or 'guess the number'
  • working on number formation
  • adding two groups of objects together
  • Singing songs such as 'five little speckled frogs'

If you would like more ideas please feel free to come and ask us after school.

In PE we will be using the bigger apparatus to make up simple sequences such as travel, balance and jump.  This is always really popular with the children as they love exploring different ways of using the equipment.

We will be taking part in STEM week where we will focus on the subjects, DT, MATHS and SCIENCE. The children will be taking part in workshops and finding out all that these subjects have to offer.

The Rainbow staff are always happy to chat and discuss any issues with parent and carers so please do not hesitate to contact us.smiley
