Our learning journey this half term is... 'Will you read me a story?'.

This learning journey is all about traditional tales and their wonderful characters, settings and plots.

We will be starting off this learning journey with a traditional tale trail where we will discover clues relating to different traditional tale stories such as Goldilocks, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Bears.

The children will be heard read once a week by classroom staff and once a week by a parent reading assistant.  They will also take part in guided reading as a class on a Friday as part of our phonics lessons.  During these sessions we encourage children to sound out and blend the words. We also work on comprehension and ask the children questions about characters and what is happening in the story.

In Maths we will be working on 2D and 3D shapes, measures and positional language. You could help with Maths at home by:

  • talking about shapes you can see and describing them. 'This triangle has three corners and three edges'.
  • cooking together and weighing ingredients.
  • use language such as on top, under, above, next to and below.
  • Use real objects to add two numbers together.
  • Order numbers on a number line.

If you would like more ideas please feel free to come and ask us after school.
